PDHM - 1967 Stanley Cup Series Screening

MAY 2

10:00 am - 3:30 pm

We hate to bring this up, but do you know the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup? In 1967, the last of the Original Six era games saw Toronto beat the Montreal Canadiens in a Centennial nail biter of a series. This 27-minute colour recap with original sound – including narration by Alex Trebek – has been recently digitized at the highest quality. With play-by-play by Bill Hewitt and Danny Gallivan, it features some of your favourite players such as our own Red Kelly, Tim Horton and Henri Richard.

We will start the action at the start of each hour, last show at 3:00 pm.

Admission by donation .

PDHM - Walter Lewis: Great lakes Passenger Travel

23 May 2026

PDHM - Walter Lewis: Great lakes Passenger Travel

MAY 23

1:00 pm

For millennia, the inhabitants of the Great Lakes watershed travelled the region in canoes of various styles.  European settlers brought a variety of sailing vessels. After the War of 1812 travel on the Lakes increased in volume, with waves of new immigrants, and in reliability, with the pioneering steamboats. New canals connected the Lakes, while lighthouses helped make nighttime navigation safer.  As settlements matured, more vessels engaged in leisure trades:  day trips, honeymoons to Niagara Falls, travel to island amusement parks, moonlight dancing, cruises, and even providing a “floating palace” during a Royal Tour.  What was it like to arrive in Upper Canada in 1790?  In 1834? To travel with the Prince of Wales? To cross the Lakes during Prohibition?

Walter Lewis is an award-winning maritime historian and frequent speaker, specializing in the history of Great Lakes region.  A graduate of Queen's University and the University of Toronto, he has served on the editorial boards of both FreshWater and is the executive editor of The Northern Mariner. In 1990 he took up scuba diving as part of the research for The River Palace, co-authored with Rick Neilson of Kingston.  His website, MaritimeHistoryOfTheGreatLakes.ca is recognized as one of the richest resources for those doing research in the history of the Lakes. He has presented to a wide range of audiences, from scholarly, to historical societies, to passengers on Great Lakes cruises.

$10 per person. Tickets available in person or online here

DTMHC - Youth Volunteer Orientation Day

MAY 30
10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Delhi Tobacco Museum & Heritage Centre’s Youth Volunteer and Mentorship program was so successful last year that we are bringing it back for 2026. Youth volunteers can offer something unique to our programs, whether you have a special talent or interest or just enjoy working with kids.

Before they can begin to volunteer, all youths are required to attend an orientation day at DTMHC. This short session includes an introduction to the museum, Health & Safety and AODA training, a fun museum challenge, and a pizza lunch. After successful completion of the museum orientation, youth volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in programming. Volunteers will be scheduled based on need.

Buckle up! Our 10th Annual Fun Car Rally is returning for 2026. During this fun family event, support the Port Dover Harbour Museum while cruising Norfolk’s scenic country roads! Drivers, navigators and friends will travel on a secret route, while answering questions about what they see along the way. See you at the finish line!

RALLY OVERVIEW:

REGISTRATION OPENS
Saturday, Sept. 26th @ 10:00am
Register at Port Dover Harbour Museum (44 Harbour Street, Port Dover)

REGISTRATION PROCESS

At registration, you will:
• fill out a rally registration form;
• sign waivers for all individuals in your car; and,
• pay the $25 entry fee – credit card, debit and cash (cash preferred for easy registration)

SPECIAL NOTES

You MUST have a minimum of 2 participants per vehicle – one driver, one navigator.

You will need a camera or smartphone to take pictures during the event. Your images must be e-mailed by midnight Sept. 29 to [email protected]. Please include the entrant’s name in the subject line.

HOW OUR RALLY WORKS

If you understand rally instructions, you may proceed directly to the start after registration. If this is your first car rally or you have questions, “Captain Jack” will be on hand to help.

The rally is not a race; it’s an enjoyable drive in the countryside for drivers and navigators (and friends). You are expected to drive at the speed limit or with the flow of traffic.

You will follow instructions to find the rally route while answering questions about what you see along the way. Write the answers to the questions on your Answer Sheet. Do not go onto private property unless specifically instructed to do so.

At the end of the rally, one of Captain Jack’s crew members will take your Answer Sheet from you.

Captain Jack says you will start the event with 0 points and will be assessed demerits (negative points) in the following amounts:
• for every wrong answer you will be assessed 5 demerits
• for every missed checkpoint you will be assessed 10 demerits
• for surly comments directed at Capt. Jack or his crew you will be assessed 25 demerits

At the end of the rally, Captain Jack’s crew members will total your demerits – the team with the fewest demerits will be declared winner. We’ll e-mail you the results next week, with special mention of the top photos (as judged by Captain Jack).

Captain Jack says for this year’s event he will reveal the rally route using different types of instructions. Here are examples of the instructions he might use this year:
• Enigma Codes
• Tulip Diagrams
• Road Trip Pictures
• Captain Jack “says” (following the rules of “Simon Says”)

All cars must turn in their questionnaires to the Port Dover Harbour Museum by 3:00 pm.
